About Me

IMG-3704_edited.jpg

I’m Ally Thurman (she/her/hers).

A midwest native, I grew up in Ohio, attended undergrad at Ball State University, and then moved to Chicago to begin my career in the nonprofit sector. After completing grad school, I decided to explore another part of the country and moved out west, finding my new home and a vibrant community in Oakland, CA.

I love being in deep connection with other humans and cherish my relationships. As an introvert and highly sensitive person, I listen well, observe intently, and draw on strong intuition and sound judgment.

I also like to bring humor to my work and relationships; some levity to make our hard work possible. Fun fact: the oxytocin released from laughter leads to more open learning!

Why Authentic Ally?

Authenticity is one of my core values, and it is also one of my goals in working with coaching clients and nonprofit organizations — to show up as authentically as possible.

I also chose the name Authentic Ally because I am committed to active allyship to BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) and other oppressed groups.

As a white cis-woman, I continually investigate my own identity and privilege, and I encourage conversations about race and identity.

I envision a world where every human feels safe, supported, and valued to live their lives fully and authentically.

My Experience

With over 15 years of professional and leadership experience in the nonprofit sector, I have held senior positions focused on marketing, development, and community outreach. I have a B.A. in Communications, a Masters in Nonprofit Management, and I am a Certified Professional Coach. For my full CV, please visit my LinkedIn profile
